With the risk of having too much pictures from the sound studio on the blog we decided to present our most recent coworker on the project - Erik. Welcome!
- Who are you?
Erik Olsson, founder and owner of Red Pipe Sound Design and Music.
- What's your role in the PressPausePlay project?
Sound Designer and beta tester.
- Which interview has the worst audio quality in the film?
I'll go with the two young japanese audio/visual artists. A stereotypically timid output from the interviewee + a room full of noisy computers - not the best of combos. But general quality is good, so I'm a happy camper.
- What was the first audio related thing you created on a computer?
A song I named "On my way to Agnus". Tools at hand: An Amiga 600 (with the hard drive!), ProTracker 3.15 and a massive 32KB piano sample. Good times.
- The best sound experience of your life?
Best might be stretching it, but seeing and hearing "Fight Club" back in 1999 was really important for me. It opened my mind to the magic of visuals and audio gluing together to form a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. It probably got me where I am today in the end, although I didn't realize it at the time. Besides that, everything Tom Waits is always a great sound experience.
- How will we look back at this period in time?
Part of me thinks we'll look back at this as the time just before everything span totally out of control. The other part thinks that this will be the period when humanity started to really tap into its full intellectual potential. I think that the tremendous progress that we've made over the last decades is almost entirely due to the fact that we have been able to start utilizing a collective brain. History has had its fair share of great thinkers and inventors, and they all accomplished great things. But the sheer force of mankind exchanging ideas and experiences collectively is much more powerful than any single Einstein or Gates or da Vinci. So it's certainly an interesting time to be living in.
