Tilting at windmills

(This photo shows the closest we got to the LCD Soundsystem show.)

While half of the PPP crew are filming in Iceland with Ólafur Arnalds, the rest of us camp out in Göteborg - home of Håkan Hellström, Feskekörka and bad word jokes. Here the Way Out West festival takes place this weekend.

Filming at a music festival makes you feel a bit like Don Quixote. The amount of actual shooting that gets done is nothing compared to the time you spend dealing with not so helpful middlemen. To ask a wellknown pop act for an interview you usually have to talk to a record label person, who then has to talk to another record label person, who has to talk to a tour manager, who has to talk to a manager, who has to talk to the band. Who usually says no.

Last night, we were supposed to film an entire LCD Soundsystem show, from the stage. This deal had been reached through weeks of discussions, negotiations and signed contracts. In the end, James Murphy and his band came late to the festival, felt stressed and suddenly decided no film cameras whatsoever would be allowed. Apparently they felt the show might not be great and didn't want it caught on tape. (Ever heard of camera phones and a thing called Youtube?)

We're not dispirited though. Today we're meeting Lykke Li and filming a Dada Life concert. To use the words of Swedish pop group First Floor Power: Don't let the bastards bring you down!
