Why would a journalist or an experts opinion about mediocrity vs. talent be more true than my best friend's opinion?
All journalists claim that Grinderman is great, I think it is shite and will tell anybody that values my opinion exactly that. Then they have 2 opinions, 1 from me and 1 from a bunch of journalists. And then they make up their mind. And if it truly is "great, talented" music, it will thrive. If not, it will be classified under mediocrity, regardless of how loud journalists shout as to how great it is.

Wow. I disagree with just about everything said in this preview clip. All of the opinions are interesting and thought provoking, but to me come across as the death knell of the old guard.

I truly think that there is better thoughts here in the comments then in that sneak peak. If you as an artist has a gift a feeling for what is right and whats wrong then the people will lift you to the top and make you heard.
I have my self been disappointed in peoples lack of feeling and taste for what is good and what is bad but the answer to that is that I have been in the wrong forums for what I try to do. As soon as you step in to the right forums where theres a natural interest in the specific area the people will have the skill to recognize good creations. In my case i don't think my style of art can speak to the masses but the opinions that count I get.

Who has the right to decide who will create art and culture? One person cant decide, hundred persons cant decide but internet can decide what is good art and culture. Internet is the world's largest democracy for natural reasons. Its the place where everybody can make themselves heard and that's why it works so well and not why it will make the art and cultural world come apart!

The arguments put forward in this vid are based on the assumption that everything created by "professional" artists is of a high quality. And that's not true at all. A lot of what we see in mainstream culture is pretty mediocre already - and that's me being PC about.

There will always be crap work out there. On the otherside, there will always be amazing work. What's great about this new digital age is that we now get to choose what we listen to/read/watch etc and what we put our money into. Our entertainment is not dictated by big companies anymore.
